Airtm and BVNK Partner to Connect Stablecoin Wallets with Real-World Payments in Emerging Markets

Airtm and BVNK are partnering to connect stablecoin wallets with real-world commerce across emerging markets. The integration aims to help users fund, receive, and spend digital dollars through a more connected payment infrastructure built on Stellar.

Stablecoins are becoming an important part of the digital payments landscape. However, holding digital dollars is only one part of the payment journey. Users also need reliable ways to fund wallets, receive money, and spend their balances.

A new partnership between Airtm and BVNK aims to address this challenge.

Announced at the Stellar Meridian Conference on October 29, 2026, the partnership connects Airtm’s wallet network with BVNK’s stablecoin payment infrastructure. It will allow Airtm users to spend funds held in their wallets at participating retailers enabled by BVNK. Users will also gain additional ways to fund their wallets and receive money.

The collaboration also accompanies the launch of Airtm Connect, a service that allows digital asset companies to establish wallet connections with Airtm’s user base.

The development reflects a broader shift in stablecoin payments. Providers are increasingly working to connect digital asset infrastructure with practical payment experiences.

Connecting Stablecoin Funding with Everyday Spending

The partnership brings together two complementary parts of the payment process.

BVNK will support payment origination through compliant on-ramping. Airtm, meanwhile, will act as the destination layer where users hold and spend digital dollars.

This connection aims to create a more complete payment journey, from bringing funds into the ecosystem to using them in commerce.

Through Airtm Connect, digital asset companies globally can build connections with Airtm’s wallet network. BVNK is among the companies using this capability.

For Airtm users, the integration is expected to expand payment options. They will be able to access additional funding and money-receiving routes while also spending wallet balances at participating BVNK-enabled retailers.

Rubén Galindo Steckel, CEO of Airtm, said stablecoin payments work best when origination and destination are closely connected.

He explained that Airtm has spent the past decade building the destination layer for the global dollar economy. The company’s goal is to create a connected journey from on-ramping to commerce for users in emerging markets.

Mastercard Infrastructure and Stellar Support the Integration

BVNK’s position within Mastercard adds another dimension to the partnership.

Through the arrangement, Airtm will gain access to the recently launched Mastercard Global Money Platform. This modular infrastructure supports fiat and stablecoin accounts, payments, and money movement.

The arrangement is designed to let Airtm maintain its customer relationship while accessing broader payment infrastructure. It could also reduce the need for the company to integrate multiple providers independently.

Kimberly Mescal Julien, Global Head of Partnerships at BVNK, described Airtm Connect as an example of fintech platforms using wallets as distribution channels for real-world commerce.

The integration will operate on the Stellar blockchain, which the companies describe as a high-speed, low-cost payment network.

BVNK recently added Stellar to its multi-chain stablecoin infrastructure. The Airtm collaboration is among the first publicly announced applications of that integration.

The choice of Stellar reflects the importance of blockchain networks in supporting cross-border digital asset payments. However, the practical benefits will depend on the availability of funding routes, merchant acceptance, and liquidity across individual markets.

Why Emerging Markets Matter to the Partnership

Airtm’s network spans multiple jurisdictions across the Global South. These markets represent an important opportunity for digital dollar payment services.

In some emerging economies, stablecoins are used for payments and as a way to hold dollar-denominated value. They can offer an alternative for people and businesses facing limited access to traditional international financial services.

However, the market remains fragmented.

Payment infrastructure differs across countries. Liquidity routes are not equally available, and regulatory requirements vary between jurisdictions. As a result, connecting wallets to reliable funding and spending options remains a major challenge.

Airtm is pursuing a multi-provider infrastructure strategy rather than depending on a single payment partner or rail.

Galindo Steckel said the company’s approach has consistently focused on providing choice to both the business and its users. He described its strategy as building a distributed last-mile network.

BVNK’s capabilities are intended to strengthen that network by adding further payment infrastructure and connections.

What the Partnership Means for Stablecoin Payments

The Airtm–BVNK agreement highlights an important development in the stablecoin industry: the move from digital dollar storage towards practical payment utility.

Stablecoin adoption depends on more than the availability of tokens or blockchain networks. Users also need accessible on-ramps, wallet services, payment acceptance, and reliable ways to move money between different systems.

This is where partnerships between infrastructure providers and wallet platforms become important.

Airtm brings access to its wallet user base and last-mile distribution network. BVNK contributes stablecoin payment infrastructure and access to Mastercard’s broader money movement platform.

Together, the companies are aiming to connect these capabilities through Stellar.

Nevertheless, the announcement does not disclose the number of participating retailers, the countries included in the initial rollout, transaction limits, or a detailed launch timetable. These details will help determine how widely the service can be used.

For the wider payments industry, the development signals a growing effort to make stablecoins useful beyond crypto-native platforms.

The next stage of stablecoin adoption may depend less on where users hold digital dollars and more on where they can actually spend them.
