Amazon has introduced a groundbreaking AI agent that can independently perform complex online tasks—including making purchases—without requiring step-by-step human oversight. The Nova Act SDK, now available in research preview, allows developers to create AI agents capable of executing multi-step workflows such as submitting out-of-office requests, apartment hunting, playing video games, and even ordering food.
The system is designed to break down intricate processes into reliable, automated actions. In a demonstration, Amazon’s Vishal Vora showcased how an AI agent could autonomously:
- Visit Sweetgreen’s website every Tuesday night
- Add a preferred salad to the cart
- Complete checkout, including delivery address, tip selection, and payment
A key feature is “headless mode”, which eliminates the need for human intervention once the workflow is configured. “If you have to babysit an AI, it’s not real automation,” Vora noted.
Amazon envisions these agents eventually handling sophisticated tasks like wedding planning or enterprise IT management, though current limitations require human supervision for highly complex objectives. The Nova Act SDK represents a significant leap toward fully autonomous digital assistants, potentially transforming e-commerce, productivity tools, and business automation.
