Google Wallet Update Enables Kids to Make In-Store Payments

Google Wallet is introducing a new feature that allows kids with parental consent to make contactless payments in stores using their Android devices. In addition to payments, children can now store and use event tickets, library cards, and gift cards within Google Wallet.

Google emphasizes that parental oversight remains a priority. A child’s payment cards can only be added with parental approval, and parents will receive email notifications for each transaction. They also have the ability to track purchases, remove cards, and disable pass access if necessary.

The feature will roll out in the coming weeks across the US, UK, Australia, Spain, and Poland.

Google’s move follows Apple’s Apple Cash Family, which allows kids to make purchases and send or receive money via Messages and Wallet. The update expands digital payment accessibility for families while maintaining strong parental controls.
