Klarna is expanding beyond financial services and into telecom with the launch of its own mobile phone plans, starting in the US. In partnership with Telecom-as-a-Service platform Gigs, the Swedish buy now, pay later (BNPL) giant is now offering Klarna Mobile—a $40-per-month unlimited plan featuring uncapped 5G data, calls, and texts, powered by the AT&T network.
The offer is exclusively available to Klarna’s 25 million US users through the Klarna app. In a move designed to simplify onboarding, customers can transfer their existing number or get a new one, all in a few taps without the hassle of paperwork, store visits, or long support calls. Klarna says the service is meant to address the pain points consumers typically associate with mobile carriers—chief among them being the difficulty of switching.
The company is planning to roll out premium and international plans later in the year, with upcoming availability in the UK, Germany, and other markets. The broader initiative supports Klarna’s vision of becoming a full-fledged neobank, with mobile services complementing its growing suite of personal finance tools.
Klarna CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski emphasized the company’s commitment to simplifying consumer experiences: “Klarna has saved consumers time and money, and reduced financial worry for over 20 years. With mobile plans, we’re taking that one step further.”
AI will play a key role in the new offering. Siemiatkowski says the app can detect if a user is overpaying for their current phone plan and offer optimized pricing options—with the option to switch instantly with a single tap.
Hermann Frank, CEO of Gigs, added, “Consumers can now expect a seamlessly integrated mobile experience that bundles premium connectivity with financial tools, all through the apps they already know and love.”
With Klarna joining fellow neobanks N26 and Revolut in launching mobile services, the convergence of fintech and telecom is accelerating, offering consumers more convenience and control over their digital lives.
