Tidal Cyber Raises $10M for Threat-Informed Defense Platform

Virginia-based cybersecurity company Tidal Cyber has raised $10 million in a Series A funding round. Bright Pixel Capital led the investment, with participation from existing backers including USAA, Squadra, Capital One, Veteran Ventures, Task Force X, and Ultratech. The company specializes in Threat-Led Defense, providing organizations with advanced security solutions.

From Compliance to Proactive Protection

Founded in 2022 by former MITRE experts Rick Gordon, Richard Struse, and Frank Duff, Tidal Cyber offers a threat-informed defense platform. This technology helps organizations measure and improve their security posture effectively. Rather than relying on traditional compliance-driven approaches, the platform simulates real-world adversary tactics. Consequently, it enables proactive, intelligence-driven protection against emerging threats.

The new funding will accelerate product development and help scale Tidal’s platform. This expansion comes as demand increases for security models based on actual threat behavior. The company aims to move organizations beyond conventional methods like CVE counting and compliance checklists. Instead, it promotes strategies grounded in how adversaries actually operate.

Industry Shift Toward Threat-Led Defense

CEO and co-founder Rick Gordon emphasized this important shift: “We see strong traction for threat-led defense as organizations move beyond assumptions and checkbox compliance. Tidal Cyber flips the model by putting real adversary behavior at the center of defense. This enables continuous, proactive protection against evolving threats.”

Bright Pixel Capital investment director Marcos Osório added his perspective: “Tidal Cyber brings new clarity and precision to cybersecurity by focusing on adversary behavior. Their platform reveals true coverage gaps and helps organizations defend against the most critical threats. We’re proud to support their growth as they advance Threat-Led Defense solutions.”

With increasing threats targeting critical industries, Tidal Cyber’s approach represents a significant industry evolution. Companies are increasingly moving from static compliance frameworks to dynamic, threat-led defense models. This shift is fundamentally reshaping how enterprises approach cybersecurity risk management in an increasingly dangerous digital landscape.
