Spain’s BBVA has officially launched a 100% digital retail bank in Germany, continuing its strategic push across Europe. This follows its successful digital-only entry into the Italian market in 2021, where it now boasts over 700,000 customers. With Germany, BBVA taps into one of the continent’s most tech-forward and financially robust markets.

New German customers will gain access to a checking account that offers 3% interest during the first 12 months. This interest is paid monthly, creating real value from day one. Additionally, a no-fee debit card offers 3% cashback on all purchases—also paid monthly. Importantly, both the account and the card come completely free of charges.
Digital-First Features for Everyday Banking
BBVA’s offering is built around mobile convenience. Customers receive a numberless debit card for enhanced security, with all card information securely stored in the app. The platform supports instant SEPA transfers, direct debits, and a fully digital account switching process. BBVA claims its banking app is “the best digital banking experience in Europe,” and this rollout puts that to the test in Germany.
Instant Access to Nationwide Infrastructure
In terms of accessibility, BBVA customers will be able to use over 70,000 ATMs and cash withdrawal points across the country. They’ll also benefit from German IBANs for local banking and streamlined payment services. These features combine the convenience of fintech with the infrastructure of a traditional bank.
Flexible Financing and Smart Payment Tools
In addition to core banking services, BBVA offers modern financing options. With Pay&Plan, users can split card purchases into three to twelve monthly installments—even up to 90 days after payment. Customers also have access to quick personal loans and the Dispokredit overdraft facility, giving them flexible financial control.
