Zopa Expands with New Manchester Office

Zopa Eyes Northern Growth
Digital bank Zopa is set to open a new office in Manchester, marking a key step in its national expansion strategy. Headquartered in London, the bank aims to build a 500-strong workforce in Manchester, beginning with more than 50 staff next month.

Manchester’s Talent and Tech Appeal
Initially focused on roles in product, engineering, and specialist operations, the new Manchester office will sit at the heart of the city’s dynamic tech and financial ecosystem. With over 10,000 digital businesses, a vibrant startup community, and five major universities, Manchester offers access to deep talent pools and innovation networks. Zopa says the office could eventually expand tenfold as the bank scales operations.

Bringing the Bank Closer to Customers
According to Iain Kendrick, Zopa’s Chief People Officer, the move reflects a desire to align more closely with the bank’s growing customer base outside the capital. “With more than 85% of our customers based outside the capital, expanding into Manchester allows us to be closer to our diverse, nationwide customer base, access new talent, and accelerate our ambitious growth journey,” he said.

Zopa’s Rapid Rise
Since transitioning from a P2P lending pioneer to a fully licensed bank in 2020, Zopa has attracted 1.5 million customers and lent over £13 billion. The bank has also achieved two consecutive years of profitability, a rarity among digital challengers.

Current Accounts and New HQ
In June, Zopa hit another milestone with the launch of its first current account, dubbed “Biscuit.” Meanwhile, the company is preparing to move into a new London headquarters later this year, which will double its existing office space to accommodate around 900 employees.

The Manchester move positions Zopa for regional growth and reinforces its status as a major player in UK fintech.
