Citi has made a strategic equity investment in Vontive, a U.S.-based embedded mortgage platform focused on investment real estate. Alongside the equity backing, Citi has also led a $150 million securitisation deal to establish Vontive’s securitisation shelf, combining traditional credit investment models with modern technology to digitise and scale the origination, underwriting, and servicing of business-purpose mortgages.
Vontive’s platform connects private credit investors directly with real estate entrepreneurs, aiming to remove long-standing barriers in financing investment properties. By simplifying access to private credit, Vontive addresses one of America’s most pressing real estate challenges: the need to renovate over 70 million homes built before 1980, amid a growing shortage of affordable housing.
The platform’s advanced tech stack leverages deep, localised data on housing markets, borrower profiles, and documentation requirements, helping streamline lending operations and deliver complex credit assets to institutional investors more efficiently.
Charles McKinney, CEO of Vontive, emphasized the synergy: “There is unprecedented demand for private credit exposure from financial institutions, but delivering it consistently and at scale requires Vontive’s sophisticated technology. The combination of Citi’s equity investment and full suite of capital markets solutions will enable us to supercharge Vontive’s growth sustainably.”
The partnership marks a major step in merging fintech innovation with institutional capital strength, creating scalable pathways for housing revitalisation and opening new channels for private credit deployment in the real estate sector.
