Nexi to Connect German Merchants to EPI’s Wero Wallet

Nexi is set to connect the first German merchants to the Wero wallet, developed by the European Payments Initiative (EPI), in the third quarter of this year. The Wero wallet, which launched in Germany this summer, will initially be available for e-commerce transactions, with plans to expand to brick-and-mortar retail later.

As a Wero acquirer, Nexi will use technical interfaces from gateway provider Computop to integrate the wallet into merchants’ payment systems. Carola Wahl, CEO of Nexi DACH, emphasized Wero’s simplicity, scalability, and pan-European reach, stating, “Wero is fully integrated into established e-commerce processes, offering real-time payments and an attractive pricing model.”

PPRO, a leading local payments platform, has also joined the initiative as a Principal Member, providing its customers with access to Wero through various channels. Wero, currently available for P2P transactions in Germany, France, and Belgium, aims to become Europe’s preferred payment method, with e-commerce and retail integrations planned for 2025 and 2026.
