Worldline Integrates Wero Wallet Into Online Checkouts

Worldline has become the latest payments provider to offer the European Payments Initiative’s (EPI) Wero digital wallet as an online checkout option. Wero, launched to power real-time account-to-account (A2A) payments via Sepa Instant Credit Transfer protocols, is designed to give European consumers and merchants a homegrown alternative to global card giants like Visa and Mastercard.

Wero already boasts 40 million users across early-adopter markets and enables instant transfers using phone numbers, email addresses, or QR codes. While its initial focus was on peer-to-peer transactions, the wallet is now gaining traction in e-commerce, with recent partnerships signed with Nexi, Nuvei, and Revolut.

Worldline, an EPI founding shareholder since 2020, confirmed that German merchants will gain access to Wero this summer, followed by Belgium in October, and France, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands in 2026.

Worldline CEO Pierre-Antoine Vacheron emphasized the strategic nature of the integration: “This new payment method highlights our commitment to delivering value-driven solutions that support our customers’ growth and advance Europe’s pursuit of sovereignty in digital payments.”

Martina Weimert, CEO of EPI, added that Wero’s roadmap includes broader omni-channel support. “By the end of 2026, EPI will not only cover e- and m-commerce payments but also be able to add omni-channel payments, first point of sale/in-store payments and invoice payments.”
