Google Unveils Agentic AI Shopping Experience with Auto-Checkout Feature

At its annual I/O conference, Google introduced a new agentic shopping experience powered by AI, designed to streamline the path from search to purchase. This innovation, dubbed “AI Mode,” enables users to set a desired price for a product and authorize an AI agent to monitor prices, add items to online carts, and even complete transactions — all within Google Search.

AI Mode goes beyond basic search by surfacing relevant product listings, supporting virtual try-ons for clothing, and providing hands-free shopping capabilities. Once a user identifies a product, they can specify preferences such as size and color, set a price threshold, and opt to receive alerts when the item drops to that target price. When ready, the user can either approve the purchase or allow the AI to finalize it automatically using Google Pay.

Google says this agent-led checkout process will launch in the US in the coming months, aiming to make online shopping more efficient and budget-friendly. Shoppers can tap “track price” on product listings and then select “buy for me” when they’re ready, with Google’s AI handling the rest — from adding the product to the cart on the merchant’s site to securely processing the payment.

This development marks a significant step in making search-driven commerce more proactive, removing friction, and bringing agentic capabilities into everyday consumer behavior.
