Nubank Launches eSIM Service for Premium Customers

Nubank partners with Gigs to offer a digital travel eSIM to Ultravioleta premium customers, providing 10GB of annual data to avoid roaming charges.

São Paulo, Brazil – Brazilian challenger bank Nubank has announced a new partnership with Telecom-as-a-Service platform Gigs to offer a digital travel eSIM to its premium customers. This service will be bundled with Nubank’s Ultravioleta premium package, providing an annual 10GB eSIM that customers can activate from their mobile banking app. The eSIM aims to help customers avoid high roaming charges and enjoy free high-speed data while traveling abroad.

Hermann Frank, co-founder and CEO of Gigs, commented on the collaboration: “The launch of travel eSIMs is a natural next step in Nubank’s successful foray into the travel space and presents a powerful lever to drive adoption of the Ultravioleta offering among Nubank’s 100 million customers. Bundling life’s essentials like banking, insurance, and now telecom in one single hub elevates the user experience while compounding stickiness. Nu is leading the convergence of banking and telecom, and it will be exciting to see who will follow suit.”

While this move marks an innovative step for Nubank, it follows similar initiatives by other financial services. In February, Revolut introduced an eSIM service for UK premium customers to mitigate data roaming costs abroad. This was followed by Western Union in March, which offered a paid eSIM service for digital wallet customers in Germany, Italy, Poland, and Romania.

Nubank Ultravioleta customers already enjoy a range of perks, including higher credit limits, attractive rewards, cashback incentives, family accounts, insurance coverage, unlimited withdrawals, and 24-hour customer service.

The partnership with Gigs follows the appointment of Rafael Plantier, a veteran of Stripe and Nubank, as head of financial services in April last year.
