Google Pay Introduces Biometrics, Expands BNPL Options

Google Pay introduces biometrics to replace CVV codes, expands BNPL options, and improves visibility of card benefits for American Express and Capital One cardholders. Discover the latest updates.

Mountain View, CAGoogle Pay has unveiled a series of updates designed to enhance the shopping experience, including the use of biometrics instead of CVV codes, expanded Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) options, and improved visibility of card benefits.

Shoppers using Google Pay’s autofill feature on Chrome or Android at checkout can now use biometrics such as fingerprint, face scan, or screen lock PIN to automatically fill in their full card details. This eliminates the need to enter CVV security codes, streamlining the checkout process.

Earlier this year, Google started piloting BNPL services with providers Affirm and Zip for online checkouts. This feature is now being expanded to more merchant sites and Android apps across the US. Shoppers can link their existing BNPL accounts or sign up with a provider during checkout.

Additionally, American Express and Capital One cardholders checking out on Chrome desktop will now see specific benefits for their cards in the autofill drop-down menu, making it easier to choose the best payment option. Google plans to extend this feature to more cards in the future.
