Tencent Showcases Borderless Payments and AI-Driven Financial Innovation at Hong Kong FinTech Week 2025

At Hong Kong FinTech Week 2025, Tencent showcased its latest advancements in borderless payments, cloud innovation, and AI-powered financial infrastructure — reaffirming its commitment to building an inclusive, intelligent global payment ecosystem.

Tencent’s Global FinTech Vision Takes Center Stage

At the 10th edition of the Hong Kong FinTech Week x StartMeUpHK Festival 2025, Tencent presented its forward-looking vision for the future of digital finance — driven by borderless payments, AI, and cloud technology.

The event, visited by John Lee, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, alongside senior financial and regulatory officials, featured Tencent’s key executives highlighting how technology is transforming global financial connectivity.

Advancing Borderless Payments

Forest Lin, Corporate Vice President of Tencent and Head of Tencent Financial Technology, discussed the company’s ongoing efforts to improve interoperability in regional payment systems. He highlighted the role of China’s Cross-Border Interconnection Payment Gateway (CPG) in addressing fragmented cross-border user experiences.

Earlier in 2025, Tencent expanded cross-border payment capabilities for international travellers through Weixin Pay and the CPG framework. Over 20 overseas wallets, including WeChat Pay HK, Hipay Wallet (Mongolia), and LiquidPay (Singapore), now support payments in Mainland China by scanning a Weixin Pay QR code.

Through TenPay Global, Tencent’s cross-border payments platform, more than 20 wallets across 10+ regions—including major global names like PayPal and ShopeePay—can now connect seamlessly with Weixin Pay.

Royal Chen, Vice President of Tencent Financial Technology, shared Tencent’s mission to create a diverse and inclusive global payment network that supports cross-border commerce, remittances, and digital transactions with a unified experience.

AI, Cloud, and Digital Transformation

Tencent’s booth featured cutting-edge innovations under its Tencent Cloud division, showcasing how AI and cloud technology are accelerating digital transformation for financial institutions worldwide.

Solutions like Tencent Yuanbao (eKYC facial recognition), Agent Development Platform (ADP), and CodeBuddy AI assistant exemplified the company’s commitment to intelligent digital ecosystems.

Tencent Cloud currently serves over 10,000 financial clients in 20 countries, with significant success stories in Hong Kong — including Fusion Bank’s 15-hour core banking migration and Airstar Bank’s full cloud transition under strict compliance regulations.

Hu Liming, Vice President of Tencent Cloud, emphasized the company’s focus on secure and scalable solutions, saying:

“We’re committed to providing stable, intelligent cloud services that enable our financial partners in Hong Kong and beyond to accelerate digital transformation.”

A Future of Inclusive Financial Innovation

Forest Lin concluded that Tencent aims to build an open and inclusive financial ecosystem, combining AI, payments, and cloud infrastructure to power the next era of global commerce.

“The digital payments landscape is undergoing a profound transformation,” Lin stated. “Tencent will continue to foster innovation that connects economies, empowers institutions, and supports a smarter, more inclusive financial future.”
