BRED Bank Fiji Migrates All Active Cards to BPC’s SmartVista Platform

The completed issuing migration follows an earlier acquiring upgrade, while planned gateway integration, fraud management, and new card services form the next phase of the bank’s payments modernization.

BRED Bank Fiji has completed the migration of all active Visa and private-label cards to BPC’s cloud-based SmartVista issuing platform, marking a major step in its payments modernization program.

The bank, part of the BRED Group, said the migration follows an earlier upgrade of its acquiring services and supports the group’s wider rollout of SmartVista across its international operations. The new platform is intended to provide scalable infrastructure for faster card-programming deployment while improving the consistency and security of payment services.

The move places card issuing on a modernized platform, while the bank continues work on additional payment capabilities. These include planned payment-gateway integration, BPC’s AI-powered SmartVista Fraud Management solution, and future services such as virtual cards and cardless withdrawals.

Modernizing card issuing and acquiring

Card issuing and acquiring are core parts of a bank’s payments infrastructure. Issuing systems manage card programs and cardholder transactions, while acquiring services enable merchants to accept payments.

Modernizing these functions can help banks support new products and payment channels without relying on fragmented systems. For BRED Bank Fiji, the issuing migration follows the earlier acquiring upgrade and forms part of a broader BRED Group effort to use SmartVista across its international operations.

Pierre-Antoine Vallet, Deputy CEO and Chief Financial and Information Officer at BRED Bank Fiji, said the migration gives the bank a scalable platform to strengthen card issuing, improve customer service, and support future growth.

The bank expects the upgrade to support broader acceptance of international cards across domestic, cross-border, and e-commerce transactions. However, the announcement does not disclose transaction volumes, migration costs, or a specific performance target.

Merchant capabilities across the group

Across BRED Group’s markets, SmartVista supports a range of merchant payment capabilities. These include contactless and multi-currency acceptance, purchases with cash-out, pre-authorisation, cash advances, refunds, reversals, and multi-currency settlement.

The platform also supports digital merchant onboarding. Together, these functions can help banks and merchants manage payment acceptance and related services across different markets.

For Fiji, the bank’s next planned step is to integrate its payment gateway with SmartVista. The bank says this is intended to strengthen online payment processing and provide a faster, more secure checkout experience.

That integration remains a future phase. The announcement does not provide a go-live date or detail the technical scope of the gateway migration.

Fraud management becomes part of the modernization program.

BRED Bank Fiji has also selected BPC’s AI-powered SmartVista Fraud Management solution to strengthen fraud prevention across ATM, point-of-sale, and e-commerce channels.

The selection signals that the program extends beyond card processing and product development to transaction-risk controls. Yet the announcement does not specify deployment timing, fraud-detection performance targets, or how the solution will interact with the bank’s existing monitoring systems.

Georgy Rashin, Head of Delivery APAC at BPC, said the partnership would help the bank expand secure digital payment services and strengthen payment acceptance capabilities.

For banks, modernizing payment infrastructure increasingly involves balancing product flexibility with fraud controls. New card programs and digital channels can create more customer options, but they also require consistent monitoring across transaction types and acceptance points.

What comes next

BRED Bank Fiji’s next program stages are expected to include further issuing enhancements, virtual cards, cardless withdrawals, UPI card acceptance, and new merchant portals.

These capabilities have been announced as future developments rather than completed launches. The bank has not disclosed a timetable for each feature.

The wider significance is the group’s effort to align payment infrastructure across international markets while allowing local operations to expand their services. For BRED Bank Fiji, the completed migration provides a foundation for the next phase of digital payments.

The key milestones to watch are the payment-gateway integration, deployment of fraud management, and rollout of additional card and merchant services. Their execution will show how quickly the modernized platform translates into customer-facing improvements.
