Jyske Bank to Acquire Formuepleje, Strengthening Its Wealth Management Push

Jyske Bank has agreed to acquire 100% of Danish wealth manager Formuepleje in a move designed to accelerate growth in wealth management and strengthen the bank’s position among affluent customers.

The binding agreement will bring one of Denmark’s largest independent wealth managers into Jyske Bank’s group, adding approximately 14,000 investors, around DKK 40 billion in assets under management and nearly 100 employees.

The transaction is expected to close in Q4 2026, subject to customary conditions and the necessary regulatory approvals. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Jyske Bank Expands Its Wealth Management Footprint

Formuepleje has a strong presence in and around Aarhus and Copenhagen, giving Jyske Bank an opportunity to expand its reach in two of Denmark’s key financial centers.

For Jyske Bank, the attraction goes beyond Formuepleje’s assets under management.

The bank says the acquisition will combine Formuepleje’s advisory model, customer relationships and specialist employees with Jyske Bank’s scale, financial platform and asset and wealth management capabilities.

That creates a larger platform for serving affluent and high-net-worth customers.

Jyske Bank has also highlighted its strong customer satisfaction in Private Banking. According to the bank, its Private Banking customers have been rated the most satisfied in Denmark for the past 11 years, based on Voxmeter’s measurements.

Formuepleje Brings 14,000 Investors and DKK 40 Billion

The scale of Formuepleje makes the acquisition meaningful for Jyske Bank’s wealth management business.

The company has:

  • Approximately 14,000 investors
  • Around DKK 40 billion in assets under management
  • Nearly 100 employees
  • A strong presence around Aarhus and Copenhagen

Formuepleje has operated as an independent wealth manager, building its business around investment management and client advisory services.

Jyske Bank says it intends to build on those existing strengths rather than simply fold the business into its own model.

That distinction could be important for customer retention.

The bank says the aim is for Formuepleje customers to continue experiencing the close relationships and advisory service they know today, while gaining access to Jyske Bank’s broader financial platform and distribution capabilities.

Alternative Investments Are Part of the Opportunity

One of the strategic opportunities highlighted by Jyske Bank is the potential to broaden its offering in alternative investments.

That includes areas such as:

  • Real estate
  • Private equity
  • Other selected alternative investment strategies

For wealth managers, alternatives can be an important part of serving affluent investors seeking portfolio diversification and access to assets beyond traditional public markets.

Jyske Bank already offers wealth-management solutions that can include alternative investments, and the Formuepleje deal could give the combined business another route to expand those capabilities.

The Deal Is Expected to Add More Than DKK 0.2 Billion in Annual Net Fee Income

The transaction also has a clear financial rationale.

Jyske Bank expects the acquisition to generate slightly more than DKK 0.2 billion in annual net fee income.

The bank expects the transaction to be EPS accretive from 2028, while integration costs are estimated at approximately DKK 0.1 billion.

Net capital consumption is expected to be close to 0.1% of Jyske Bank’s risk exposure amount.

Importantly, Jyske Bank has not changed its 2026 earnings guidance as a result of the transaction.

The bank continues to expect 2026 earnings per share of DKK 71–85, corresponding to a net profit of approximately DKK 4.3 billion–DKK 5.1 billion.

Jyske Bank Wants to Grow With Wealthier Customers

The acquisition fits a broader trend across European banking.

Traditional banks are increasingly looking to wealth management for relatively stable fee income and deeper relationships with affluent customers.

The logic is straightforward.

A wealthy customer may need far more than a current account or mortgage.

They may also require:

Investment management → private banking → alternative investments → estate and retirement planning → financing → broader advisory services.

That makes wealth management a strategically valuable part of a universal bank.

Formuepleje gives Jyske Bank a larger pool of investors and an established advisory organisation that can be connected to those broader services.

A Danish Wealth Management Consolidation Story

The acquisition also highlights continued consolidation within the wealth management industry.

Independent wealth managers can offer specialist investment expertise and close customer relationships. Large banks, meanwhile, bring scale, distribution, technology and access to a wider product ecosystem.

Combining the two can create potential benefits for both sides.

For Jyske Bank, the challenge will be integrating the businesses without weakening the qualities that made Formuepleje attractive in the first place.

That means maintaining customer relationships while capturing the benefits of scale.

In wealth management, bigger is not automatically better. The real test is whether scale can improve the client experience without making it less personal.

What Happens Next?

The acquisition remains subject to the necessary regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.

Jyske Bank expects completion during the fourth quarter of 2026.

Until then, the transaction remains a proposed acquisition rather than a completed takeover.

If completed, however, the deal will give Jyske Bank a significantly larger wealth management operation and strengthen its position among Denmark’s affluent investor base.

The Bigger Picture

Jyske Bank is not simply buying DKK 40 billion of assets under management.

It is buying relationships, investment expertise and a platform for future wealth-management growth.

The bank can bring Formuepleje’s customer base into a broader financial ecosystem, while Formuepleje gains access to Jyske Bank’s scale and infrastructure.

That could make the deal strategically more important than its headline numbers suggest.

As competition for affluent customers intensifies, the next phase of European wealth management may be defined by banks combining the reach of large institutions with the personal relationships of specialist managers.
