BBVA Revamps Mobile App with AI and Personal Financial Coach

BBVA has unveiled a major upgrade to its mobile banking app, introducing advanced AI features and a personalised virtual financial coach to improve user experience and financial health. With a focus on speed, customisation, and guidance, the new app reflects BBVA’s strategy to radically centre its services around customer needs in its 2025 digital transformation push.

A key feature of the redesign is the AI-driven interface that allows each user to personalise their app layout according to individual financial priorities. Whether it’s savings, budgeting, or investments, users can shape their experience based on what matters most to them.

The app’s virtual assistant, Blue, has been enhanced to handle natural language questions, offering intuitive responses and smoother interaction. Complementing Blue is a new AI-powered financial coach that assesses each customer’s income, expenses, savings, and debts. It then suggests actionable steps to improve financial well-being — such as setting savings goals, cutting costs in specific categories, and using tailored financial tools.

Beyond personal finance coaching, the app includes practical features like direct access to cards, instant payments via Bizum, upcoming bill alerts, investment fund options, and a digital piggy bank for goal-based savings.

BBVA CEO Onur Genç emphasised that the new app signals the beginning of a bold new phase for the bank: “2025 marks the start of a new strategic cycle for BBVA, in which we have committed to incorporate a customer perspective into everything we do in a radical way. This new app is a clear example of this. Every customer will have their own version of the app.”
