Nucleus Financial Names Dave Reynolds as CTO as Jenny Thorpe Prepares to Depart

UK wealthtech firm Nucleus Financial has appointed Dave Reynolds as its new chief technology officer. The incoming technology chief is expected to take up the role at the start of January 2027, subject to regulatory approval.

Reynolds will succeed Jenny Thorpe, who is due to leave Nucleus Financial at the end of 2026 to pursue a new opportunity elsewhere. Thorpe joined the company in late 2022 as chief business architect and became CTO in February 2024.

In his new role, Reynolds will lead Nucleus Financial’s technology division while also overseeing transformation and change across the wider group.

Dave Reynolds joins Nucleus Financial from Quilter.

Reynolds joins Nucleus Financial from Quilter, where he’s spent the past eight years in senior technology leadership roles. He initially served as CTO before moving into the position of Group Chief Information Officer in May 2023.

His appointment brings experience across technology leadership, IT governance, architecture, and large-scale transformation within the financial-services sector specifically.

Before joining Quilter, Reynolds spent seven years at Old Mutual, where he moved into technology executive leadership after serving as IT Architecture and Governance Director of Old Mutual Wealth. He was promoted to the executive role there in 2015.

Earlier in his career, Reynolds also held technology leadership positions at Hampshire County Council and Skandia, rounding out a career spent almost entirely across financial services and public-sector technology.

Jenny Thorpe to leave at the end of 2026

Thorpe is preparing to leave Nucleus Financial after several years with the WealthTech firm. She joined the company in 2022 as chief business architect before moving into the CTO role in February 2024.

Her departure is expected at the end of 2026, when she’ll move on to a new opportunity. Her successor will formally take over at the beginning of January, pending the required regulatory approval process.

Technology and transformation sit at the center of the role.

Reynolds’ responsibilities will extend well beyond Nucleus Financial’s core technology operations. The company says he’ll oversee technology, transformation, and change across the group, placing the CTO role squarely at the center of its technology and business-change activities.

His background across wealth management, financial services, and technology leadership gives him experience in areas including IT architecture, governance, and information technology management. This appointment also comes as wealth and financial-services firms continue investing in technology infrastructure and digital capabilities in order to support increasingly complex client and operational requirements.

Reynolds is expected to start in January 2027.

Reynolds is expected to assume the CTO position at the start of January 2027, subject to regulatory approval going through as planned. Until then, Thorpe will remain in the role ahead of her planned departure at the end of 2026.

This leadership transition will bring a new technology executive to Nucleus Financial, with Reynolds taking responsibility for the group’s technology, transformation, and change agenda going forward.

For Nucleus Financial, the appointment represents a genuine change in technology leadership as the company prepares for the next phase of its digital and transformation strategy.
